The enigma of death, as well as the inexplicable of love, are not illuminated by the egocentrism of the demands of understanding, they are only illuminated by the path of participation. And participatory knowledge is gained only through the game of freedom, namely erotic self-surrender and self-offering. A compulsory immortality would be a hell by definition. The only eternal non-hell that the human mind can conceive is: to exist, because you freely want to exist, with the fuller joy of existence being love. It is the ecclesiastical gospel.
