The book describes the story of Apollonius, the ideal divine man, the bearer of divine wisdom, the exponent of God's revelation, the religious reformer, the social reformer, the miracle worker, the demigod, the hierophant of Asclepius, who as an exemplary ascetic abstained from worldly pleasures. Apollonius later became known as the "Christ of the pagans" by the church.
As the author states at the beginning of his book, the insults and slanders of the church against Apollonius imposed on him the moral obligation to define himself voluntarily, as an advocate for the defense of Apollonius, something that no Greek had done until today, for a thousand and seven hundred years.
