Was Cosmas of Aetolia a teacher or a revolutionary?
Did he desire the overthrow of the Turkish yoke and await the "desired" or was he simply a teacher of the Gospel, enlightened with Divine Grace, whose purpose was the teaching of the Greek language (by founding schools), without ever questioning the secular authority held by those of different faiths?
Prudent questions and healthy contemplation; more prudent and significant, however, is to focus on the work of Patrokosmas, who did not fear, during the difficult years of slavery, to fight for the spiritual rebirth of the Greeks, believing that only with its own weapons would the free Greek be reborn.
