Description

The studio monitor T5V by ADAM is the perfect tool for sound engineers and musicians who want something reliable at an affordable price. Its quality features, small size, and price/performance ratio make it top-notch and the main reason it is the best-seller in its category. It features a 5-inch polypropylene woofer that can go down to 45 Hz, and a U-ART ribbon tweeter with an HPS waveguide from the larger S series. It operates with dual amplification with two built-in Class-D amplifiers, 50 Watt RMS for the woofer and 20 Watt RMS for the tweeter. It has advanced DSP and allows for processing of 2 frequency bands. The cabinet design is such that it allows for proper placement even in the smallest and most demanding spaces.

I got them at a very good price. I started with KRK rokit5, then I gave them and got the Yamaha HS7.
I gave those too and now I got the Adams. I use them exclusively for music production.
Objectively, all three products left me satisfied.
But the Adams are a click above everything for me. I put on and listened to pieces that I have been listening to for over a decade, and which I know very well. I have heard them countless times with different monitors, and with different studio headphones. I immediately caught on the high frequencies, things that I had never noticed with the KRK rokit or the Yamaha HS.
The construction is sturdy. Heavy stuff. But in this, the KRK and Yamaha were also correct.
    They have a 5-year warranty.
Pay attention to the cables. In relation to the KRK and Hs8 which connected to the interface with trs-trs, these here, if you want a balanced connection, you need trs-xlr male.

It is the best value for money product you can buy and get back in terms of quality. I use them for music production in FL Studio and I can really cover a wide range of genres because they capture very good frequencies. They go down to 35-40 Hz, but that's how studio monitors are usually designed. Usually, you would also get a subwoofer, but these speakers hold up very well even in those low frequencies they provide.

Initially, I did an unboxing, go check it out. You will need cables that are not included for connecting to a sound card. I plugged them into the Focusrite Studio 2i2 3rd Gen that I had in a bundle.

    Unboxing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_WNsYMeVio

Since I have been using them for a while now and have become accustomed to them, I have produced and mixed songs for long hours (because I mixed for a long time, not because the speakers are not good!). I can confidently say that they have:

    - A very balanced sound at all volumes and within the frequency range they provide.
    - Satisfactory bass, which, with the appropriate room treatment, will not distort.
    - Clear mids and highs that you can mix at all volumes, but I would recommend mixing at a moderate volume in general.

There are no limitations, you can't imagine how powerful the sound is for my room. I bought them for their "small" size and they have a volume adjustment up to +18dB (I have them at 0, which is the normal level, but they still provide enough volume that I enjoy. Imagine if I set them to 18, it would be overkill). Also, I usually don't keep speakers at maximum volume for a long time because the sound distorts and I'm afraid of damaging them. But with these speakers, even at maximum volume, neither the sound distorted nor did I fear damaging them. You can understand how high-quality the German construction is.

Fun fact: I preferred them over KRK Rokit, M-Audio, and Yamaha speakers of the same category, and I do not regret it. Not to say that the others are bad, I just believe that I made the right choice in the end because I was considering all of the above options. I believe they will satisfy all of you, but if you choose Adam speakers, you won't be able to let go and you will develop an obsession like that of iPhone and Apple products. So trust me, you won't be disappointed at all, it's a very satisfying choice to go with Adam speakers.

    Cheers.

These speakers are very versatile, you can mix different genres of music on them. They have a transparent sound, making them suitable for many types of music, unlike speakers in the same price range such as Yamaha HS5, KRK, JBL 305, Presonus, M-Audio, etc.

I believe that at this price, you won't find more "analytical" speakers. They have enough depth for their price, which is good for mixing. They bring out a lot... every instrument and its placement, everything is audible, they don't hide anything (which is very important for mixing!). They don't exaggerate, you could say they have a very "careful and aristocratic" sound. They are ADAM, my friend!

Because of the transparency I mentioned earlier, these speakers "don't do any favors". If a song is poorly mixed, they simply "expose" it, and the opposite is true for well-mastered tracks. It doesn't take long to get used to them for the same reason that they don't have a specific character. You just need to "have it" yourself, of course!

(And yes, all the hype about ribbon tweeters and crystal-clear/high-frequency details, all of it is true. The high frequencies are so detailed that you know exactly what's happening "up there".

In conclusion, anything I have mixed with these speakers (connected to interfaces like Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and MOTU M2, with their "dry" sound) ends up sounding juicy and "ready" on all sound systems/mobile devices/headphones.

These speakers are very impressive, especially considering their price range. I use them as desktop speakers, connected balanced with a Scarlett Solo. I use a computer as the audio source, playing wav and flac files from the hard drive, as well as streaming music and low-resolution videos from platforms like YouTube and Spotify. They are placed about 1.2 meters apart from each other, and that's also the distance between me and each speaker, creating an approximate equilateral triangle. I have also paired them with Millenium stands, which elevate the speakers about 25 cm off the desk, so that the tweeters are at ear level and achieve the necessary decoupling.

What initially impressed me was their bass: I didn't expect a 5'' woofer to produce such low frequencies - of course, it can't go below 45 cycles, and at high volumes, it can quickly reach its limits in modern electronic music programs. Of course, it lacks the physical sensation of sub-bass (20-60 Hz), but it plays satisfactorily from 60 cycles and above.

Regarding the famous ribbon tweeters, I have the feeling that they are indeed more "open" and "airy" in the high frequencies, especially when you turn up the volume a bit. This makes the sound more analytical, but during long listening sessions, it can be tiring, especially when dealing with recordings that have high energy in the frequency range where the Adam also emphasizes, meaning from 5 kHz and above. Ultimately, the tweeter seems to be the weak point rather than its strong suit, as its performance is uneven and it presents difficulties in matching with larger woofers, such as the 7'' and 8'' "bigger siblings" in the series, due to its inability to cross over below 3 kHz, resulting in harmonic distortion and problems at the cutoff frequency. For the same reasons, the T5V seems to be the sweet spot in the series, and if someone desires more extension in the low frequencies (which, let's face it, a 5'' driver cannot provide enough of), it would be better to consider the T10S subwoofer from the same company, which is designed to be paired with the T5V.

Also, I might have wanted them to be a bit louder: with the gain on the back of each speaker set exactly at 0 dB (the reference point recommended by the company in the user manual), I can easily max out the volume on the sound card, at least with low-recorded tracks and those that haven't fallen victim to the loudness war. Therefore, they have limited headroom/dynamic range, which is reasonable for speakers in this price range and category. So, if someone wants to use them in living rooms and larger spaces to listen from 3-4 meters away, it would be better to look for something with more volume and higher SPL, especially in the low frequencies. I definitely wouldn't recommend them for listening distances over 2 meters; ideally, they are suited for 1-1.5 meters. Additionally, due to the rear bass reflex, they are less flexible in terms of placement and optimal distances from the back wall compared to various front-ported models available in the same price category.

In conclusion, these speakers are very good for what they offer and their price. Their construction is sturdy, and their appearance is attractive, at least for those who prefer a more industrial aesthetic rather than a more classic one.

And a review with measurements of the speaker, where it is proven that the Adam is not completely flat, as it presents a significant boost in the high frequencies, from 5 kHz and above, which explains the perceived sensation of "airy", open, and detailed sound. However, with a few absorptive panels (curtains, rugs, etc.) and/or EQ, this deviation can be easily corrected

Amazing speakers, with rich, full sound.
The bass is very satisfying, but what elevates the acoustic experience of these speakers is their tweeter.. I didn't believe that with such a budget, you could hear such "open" and airy highs.

The speakers are intended for studio use, but I have them in a small living room, with the following setup:
    Chromecast Audio -> optical -> DAC Topping D30 -> Adam T5V
and they perform exceptionally well with streaming FLAC from Tidal. And with Spotify, they are superb, but due to the streaming limitation at 320kbps, there is a slight loss of clarity mainly in the highs.

Especially at higher volumes, they create a 3D effect that I personally have never heard in a setup under €500 in total.

The only negatives I can think of are:
    1) They have a rear bass reflex port, so you need to be careful not to place them too close to a wall because the bass will become bloated and muffled.
    2) The volume knob doesn't have discrete positions or a "stepping" at 0dB, it has a continuous flow, so it requires some attention during initial setup in order for the left and right speakers to have exactly the same volume.

Extremely good studio monitors. Connected with (Balanced) Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen and they work wonders. There is no chance of finding something better in this price range!
