Description
Alexandros Georgiadis, born in Othos, Karpathos, found himself as an immigrant in America. An electrical engineer, graduate of Carnegie, he was enlisted in the American secret services during World War II, the OSS (Office of Strategic Services). Based in Adrianople, he organized acts of sabotage against the Allies, resulting in the disruption of Axis supply bridges from Turkey.
He retired with the rank of captain. He was honored with the Bronze Star Medal of Valor of the US Army and received the Legion of Honor distinction for exposing the "Dokgoud" network of double agents.
His refusal to work for the CIA after the end of the war and his collaboration with EAM and ELAS brought him into the eye of the storm, when the star of McCarthy dominated in America, resulting in many psychological and other persecutions.
A member of AHEPA since its foundation, he remained so until his death in 1976, a passionate Dodecanesian and lover of his homeland, Karpathos.
