With great pleasure and honor, we present the first edition of the textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology", which is the result of the joint effort of the three University Clinics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, assisted by all Greek Medical Schools.

This textbook, as the first collaborative effort in this specific field, reflects the invitation for broader participation in activities that aim to coordinate knowledge and applications in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology nationwide, through the creation of guidelines and the encouragement of Research and Innovation.

We hope that this edition will serve as a reference point, as knowledge in modern obstetrics and gynecology is rapidly evolving and multidimensional, making evidence-based medicine increasingly necessary in clinical practice. The purpose of this textbook is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date representation of the data that inundate the literature in this field, combining classical knowledge with updated information on the physiology and pathology of the entire spectrum of this specific field of knowledge, as well as the approach to medical issues with modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods, introducing the applications of basic research into clinical practice. Additionally, for the first time, chapters describing the legal and social impact of the medical practices of obstetrician-gynecologists are included in a general Obstetrics-Gynecology handbook, thus reflecting the bioethical and legal dimension of our specialty.

A large number of clinical studies, post-analyses results, updated epidemiological data, and recommendations from the guidelines of International Organizations, Scientific Societies, and organized Health Systems were utilized to complete this textbook, presented in a simple, targeted, and understandable manner in order to educate medical students and serve as a reference for specialized and non-specialized physicians.
