The faces of Pirandello's theater must admit that they thirst for knowledge, and not only for knowledge of life or customs or the actions of others, but also of hidden intentions, the motivations behind an action, the depths of his thoughts. The tendency of humans to know the other can have various causes. Sometimes, it is simply the curiosity of the average person who thirsts to hear about adventures that he himself has not experienced and scandals that "introduce" him to the dark sides of others' lives. [...] Other times, it is an insatiable critical disposition towards human mistakes, especially when the "sinners" are unknown individuals. [...] Finally, there is the curiosity of those directly interested in the truth, a curiosity that is synonymous with the anxiety to uncover the hidden cards of the soul or the past of the other, as these are decisive for their interpersonal relationship with him. [...]
