Description

Aristotle was an exceptional thinker, perhaps the greatest in history. However, he was tormented by a common question: how to be happy. His profound belief was that we can all be happy in a meaningful and sustainable way - and he taught this by example. Professor Edith Hall demonstrates that ancient thought is exactly what we need today. Through ten practical lessons, we understand ourselves better and how to make good decisions.
We learn how to succeed in a job interview, how to choose a partner and lifelong friends, and how to cope with death or loss.
Whether in ancient Greece or the modern world, the challenges of life remain the same. Aristotle does not describe a simple application of rules. With his practical, moderate, and timeless reasoning, he invites us to delve into the essence of existence and consciously move towards a happy life.
His advice will always be timeless and relevant.

Reviews

  • This book is a summary of Aristotle's thoughts on various philosophical questions such as: happiness, self-knowledge, love, etc. The author of the book is Edith Hall, a member of the British Academy and a university professor specializing in ancient Greek history and literature. In this particular book, Aristotle's views are presented from several of his works, some of which are quoted verbatim. It is a relatively easy read even for those who are not familiar with philosophy. What captivated me about this book is the fact that Aristotle's thoughts remain relevant even today.

Quite a good book, it makes you understand things about yourself and those around you. I found the first chapters a bit boring, but the rest makes up for it. I highly recommend it!

It starts with interest but then loses its meaning. I do not recommend it.
