"The book 'Clinical Findings in Companion Animals' (2nd edition) by author Dr. Michael Schaer is one of the few, if not the only, textbooks that covers almost all diseases of internal pathology in dogs and cats through the use of images from real clinical cases. The reader, flipping through the first pages of the book, immediately realizes that the author has put into practice the saying 'A picture is worth a thousand words'.

At the beginning of each chapter, there is a brief introductory text, followed by the analysis of the cases. The backbone of the textbook, which is none other than the rich photographic material, is accompanied by extremely detailed and descriptive captions, which provide the main information regarding the history, clinical findings, diagnostic tests, and management of the depicted case. The text in the captions is so concise and vivid that it keeps the reader's interest undiminished.
Upon completing the reading, the reader gets the feeling that they themselves were present during the examination of the case, which helps in memorizing the information and recalling the acquired knowledge when a similar case is encountered in real conditions. It is commendable that the photographic material mainly comes from the author's personal archive, which he created during his many years of veterinary practice in various university and private veterinary clinics for approximately 40 years."
