Description

Konstantinos Sathas was one of the most important historians of the modern Greek era, laying the foundations for the development of Byzantine and Medieval studies in our country. His research brought to light several obscure and at the same time "deviant" aspects of Greek history, such as the existence of a brotherhood of "national" initiates in Mystras in the 15th century, guided by the philosopher Georgios Gemistos - Plethon, the role played by literary archaeolatrous stratioti (or Soldiers) in the West in the years after the Fall of Constantinople, as well as the activities of a mysterious "Society" that kept the flame of ancient mysteries and Hellenism alive until the eve of the Revolution.

The book you are holding in your hands is a collection of selected excerpts from Sathas' works, "Medieval Library" and "Biographies of Greeks who have shone in literature", embellished with a particularly enlightening introduction by journalist Stefanos Mytilinaios, which gives new dimensions to the subject under examination.

The main objective of this volume is by no means the creation of yet another conspiracy theory, as some susceptible to such pursuits believe, but rather the minimal duty to restore the historical contribution of Greek intellectuals to the Renaissance and modern Western civilization, up to and including the Enlightenment, and to attribute to them the recognition they deserve from the societies of so-called "internalism".
