Description

Greek and European intellectuals have celebrated our folk songs. We Greeks owe it to our national treasure to preserve it. These diamonds of our people's poetry should not be lost in the abyss of oblivion, but should be preserved and remain as a legacy in the national treasury. We must not allow the steamroller and whirlwind of globalization to make them disappear.

This is the spirit in which this specific book on folk songs moves. Most of them are well-known and sung throughout Greece. The book is not limited to the simple recording of folk songs. The originality of the book lies in the detailed studies, the texts of notable intellectuals, the research, the analysis, and many other elements that highlight the importance of our folk songs.

The book has received favorable reviews from selected journalists and educators in the following newspapers: "Proinos Logos (Ioannina newspaper) 10-2-2010, 17-6-2010, 5-7-2013, 10-7-2013, Ipeiroton Mellon (Athens newspaper) - June 2010". On June 30, 2013, the book was presented by the professor and then vice-rector of the University of Ioannina, Georgios Kapsalis, after an invitation from all the intellectual and cultural associations of all the villages in the Dodoni Valley. At the end of the event, Professor Angelos Evangelou of the Medical School of the University of Ioannina spoke briefly about the importance of folk songs.

The book consists of two main sections (Part A and Part B). Part A includes special studies on folk songs as well as related texts. Part B includes representative songs from the 14 categories of folk songs. Each category is preceded by a description and explanation of its content. Where possible, relevant photos were included in the book (The mother in folk songs, as well as in Historical and Klephtic songs).
