With closed eyes, you go and get it. With a full smart home logic, 2 echo dots, and as a "master" the echo 4th gen, I am more than satisfied. Also, a significant upgrade in sound. No comparison to the dots if someone wants it for music.
The only issue it has is that it has limitations in some skills, but this is not a device issue but an Amazon issue. Of course, if you dig a little, you can pass almost anything to it
After a few weeks of use, I have to say that it is definitely worth the money. In my opinion, it is necessary to connect it to Amazon US to show the device's capabilities. With a VPN like ProtonVPN, one can easily create a US account. Now I can see that, in addition to Spotify and other services that it couldn't connect to before, it also supports all Broadlink smart devices (it has even imported the routines I have created on the Broadlink devices) and many others. The ability to run a combination of commands with a single command, such as "Alexa Goodnight" to turn off lights, music, and TV, and play sleeping sounds if desired, is very useful. For adjusting the volume, the best way is to request the level (from 1 to 10) like "Alexa, set the volume to 4" or "Alexa, increase the volume by 2". The English doesn't have to be perfect, most of the time it ignores common mistakes and executes the command. After a little familiarization, it can add boring routines like appointments, reminders, and many others with a voice command. If you plan on listening to music in the living room, it is clearly preferable to choose its smaller brother, the Echo Dot, due to its limited speaker capability.
Nice speaker. I have the feeling that the microphone is not perfect. Also, a problem is that even though it supports ziegbie protocol, it practically works with very few gadgets. This is not a problem of the Echo itself, but keep it in mind if you choose this specific Echo for ziegbie support
The Echo is the latest model of Amazon's digital assistant (as of 2021). As a speaker, it is very good (I set the volume to 50% in my apartment for music). Its cheaper counterpart is the Echo Dot (smaller in size and with lower volume).
It has many capabilities, do a search and you will be amazed.
As mentioned in other comments, it requires English. For simplicity in commands, you can create routines (e.g. "Alexa, lights on" instead of "Alexa, living room lights on," etc.). It is particularly helpful if you live with someone who doesn't speak English well.
It always needs to be plugged in (you can't charge it and use it). Personally, for the bedroom, I have also purchased a cheaper third-generation model so I don't have to shout in the house.
Because I would have liked someone to tell me the following to save time, I will share them with you:
-Alexa wants its lie. Not all functions are available in Greece, at least for now (and in Europe/UK in general, it doesn't have some functions like Location to activate routines based on your home or work). Personally, after searching, I created an Amazon account with a USA residence and registered it there. It is also the only way for some applications to work, such as Spotify (which won't work with a Greek Amazon account), LG, etc. Apple Music will never connect (unless you have a way to make your Apple account UK, USA, etc.). In the Alexa app, you will enter your actual place of residence, there is no problem there. Also, in Device Settings, you will change the Measurement Units to Celsius and kilometers.
-When you get something smart (bulbs, door sensors, etc.), read in the comments if it works well with Alexa. For example, while Yeelight (a subsidiary of Xiaomi) connects seamlessly with Alexa, for Xiaomi, you will have to lie again about your place of residence (this time in Xiaomi).
