Description

Hampermas will note - and he is right - that it is certain that even in the 12th century people would have felt modern - people of their time, just like in the 21st century. Therefore, the issue is not how one feels or thinks about oneself, but rather how external judges perceive it. It is the thoughts of such external judges that this volume deals with. The participating authors in their texts examine, analyze, and discuss either the work of specific prominent thinkers-external judges of modernity, such as A. Toqueville, K. Marx, E. Durkheim, M. Weber, G. Simmel, S. Freud, T. Parsons, H. Marcuse, J. Habermas, Z. Bauman, A. Giddens, P. Bourdieu, C. Polanyi, D. Riesman, F. Jameson, J. Lipovetsky, or schools of thought or reflection with common thematic interests, such as the Chicago School and the Frankfurt School. They also deal with both the search for historicity and tradition in the thought of M. Heidegger and H.-G. Gadamer, or the exploration of the modern city, as well as the determination of the position of civil society and the status of the citizen in early and late modernity. By presenting the work of specific thinkers and schools, the participating authors aim to demonstrate how they approach, study, respond to, and ultimately stand against what is called modernity. Through these perspectives, our goal is to understand what modernity consists of and thus to perceive how our own world is different from what has come before, but also how it shapes us and what the limits of our own interventions can be. Included texts: - Socrates M. Konioros: "Novelty and Modern Social Thought"
- Stavros Konstantakopoulos: "Individualism and Novelty"
