A whistle with a pea creates sound from the movement of the small ball inside, closing and opening the hole where the air escapes alternately. This process produces a rapid change between sound and silence, the characteristic "vibrato" whistle - until the ball gets stuck in the hole.
The FOX40 whistle without a pea is more like a harmonic instrument, as it produces 3 slightly different frequencies simultaneously. The different frequencies are placed on top of each other, alternating and canceling each other out. The result is a loud, piercing vibrato whistle that has no moving parts inside to get stuck. The whistle is made of plastic from a mold and is produced using the injection method.
