Plays directly on the laptop without needing anything else. Speed depends on the signal you have. Where I want it, it reaches 50mbs down and 25 upload which is more than enough for me. For this money, it's great
I got it because Nova gave me a ZTE router and they told me to find a corresponding 4G stick to have backup internet connectivity in case the main line goes down for some reason. I really didn't expect it to be so easy to install. All you need to do is disable the PIN of the SIM card you will use and everything else is automatic. Be careful, you also need an SD card for it to work. I used an old 2GB one that I had. I tried it first on my laptop and I was amazed at how simple it is. When it's plugged into the router (ZTE H288A), it automatically recognizes it and as soon as it loses connectivity from the provider, it starts having connectivity through the 4G network within 2 minutes.
The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it doesn't reach the promised speeds (150Mbps) at all. I know that with my mobile phone, I get 150Mbps 4G at my house. However, with this device, I get between 5 and 7 Mbps in download and 0.6-0.7Mbps in upload. It doesn't bother me personally because I just need it as a backup connectivity for the alarm system of my home assistant and the Reolink cloud for the cameras. It's purely for security purposes in case someone malicious cuts off the internet from outside. However, someone who wants it for their main connection should know that they will have these maximum speeds (unless there are some advanced settings that I couldn't find, although everything was automatic and it connected directly to UMTS+ mode).
It also has a web interface at IP 192.168.0.1 and it is accessible whether you have it plugged into a PC or on the router's USB port, and you can also view SMS messages, etc. There is also an option for data plan control. Overall, it's a very reliable purchase. I would recommend it.
Very stable so far and it captures the signal quite well. The only negative is that it responds to a specific IP address that does not change, and this causes problems for me because I happen to use the same address range in my home network. In the previous model, there was also a Linux distribution running where you could change this IP address with SSH and some commands, but it is not possible on the 833.
Plug and Play in Linux, you will find it at the address 192.168.0.1 in your browser to configure it. The connectivity is very satisfactory. The signal is slightly weaker than a mobile Galaxy s8+, but it is quite satisfactory for its price.
