Why another book on University Physics? The author's basic belief is that the way Physics is taught should constantly evolve, improve, and focus on better understanding by students. Based on these, every new Physics book should be written and not be another replica of the large number of existing, multi-page University Physics books.
This book emerged from teaching Physics for over twenty years to first-year students of polytechnic schools, taking into account their questions. The basis of the book was the notes and slides with detailed color diagrams of the above course. An important originality of it is the integration of concise descriptive but also sufficiently analytical color graphics of natural phenomena into the text. Thus, by exploiting the illustrative way of describing the graphs with explanations given verbally on the figures, the explanation is avoided in a concise lengthy text along with references to the relevant figures, which sometimes hinder and distract the study. The rule of the book is: "a picture is worth a thousand words," and thus the verbal description is significantly shortened and limited, making the study easier, more understandable, and more enjoyable.
Phenomena and laws are not presented dogmatically, as this contradicts the fact that Physics is an experimental science. The course followed in scientific research was adopted. First, the basic questions posed by science are presented, followed by the relevant experiments that provide the answers and led to various discoveries. Then, from the conclusions of the observations, the relevant laws are reasonably deduced, their strict mathematical description is made, and the individual generalizations. Finally, representative examples of solved problems and exercises are presented. Based on these, a small number of selected unsolved problems are proposed. The presentation of a large number of unsolved identical problems, which are difficult to handle in the limited time of an academic semester, is avoided.
