Description
The narration of the captivity and escape of Christophoros Platon Kastanis during the massacre in Chios Island, by the Turks, with various adventures in Greece and America written by himself.
Second translated edition
Easter of 1822 was destined to be one of the most horrific moments in human history. The destruction of Chios by the Ottoman forces gave a new meaning to the word atrocity.
In the midst of this massacre, a child struggles to survive, but becomes a witness to the atrocities and destructive frenzy of the Turks.
He is captured, sold as a slave several times, and finally manages to escape to find himself wandering and restless in revolutionary Greece.
He manages to meet the philhellene doctor Howe and almost be one of the first Greeks to experience the "American dream," studying in the newly established American Republic.
In 1851, Christophoros Kastanis publishes the book in English, which has remained unpublished in Greek in the library of Pennsylvania since then.
An exciting narrative that could be a novel, but is a "journalistic" approach that only the truth of an eyewitness can contain.
A book that transports us to the days of revolutionary Greece through the eyes of a child. Perhaps that is why it is also the most authentic testimony of the era.
