Bacchylides of Ceos is the last chronologically lyrical creator of antiquity. His carefully designed victory compositions are perhaps the most characteristic examples of late choral lyricism of the 5th century BC. The primary virtues of Bacchylides' poetic production are the creative variety in his mythical narratives, the versatile combination of different narrative techniques, and the pure Ionic language that clearly promotes poetic thought and dynamically activates the emotions and reflections of the audience.
This volume aims to present to the Greek audience for the first time a translation and detailed interpretive approach to all of Bacchylides' victory odes, illuminating the individual aspects of their spatial-temporal framework.
