This book consists of two parts. In the first part, we provide students of biological and medical sciences with a general introduction to the brain and the theoretical foundations that allow us to study the relationship between its structure and function using neural models based on known concepts from Neurophysiology.
In the second part, we present another method of study independent of the first one we mentioned earlier, which is based on computer simulation techniques for studying the dynamics of neural systems. As we will see from the description of these methods, analytical and simulation methods are two complementary methods that help researchers working in this field to delve deeper and be able to clearly understand how the brain works and how it performs its difficult task.
Thus, we believe that this book will provide knowledge and motivation for young researchers who still need to study the mystery hidden inside this gray box called the brain.
I would like to express my thanks to my technician Mr. G. Charalampidis and to my supervisor Dr. P. Antoniou for their editing and processing of the diagrams and for the better presentation of this textbook. Finally, I would like to thank my wife for her moral support and my daughter for proofreading this book.
