After many negotiations with management, I managed to convince them to switch to these Seagate drives.
The SAS protocol has nothing to do with SATA in terms of speed and reliability, it is twice as fast.
In terms of reliability, these drives are slightly quieter compared to Seagate, but mainly they have lower temperature. Now, if you have 30 drives working 5 degrees colder inside the Data Room, there is a difference. They have not had any issues for the past 6 months with daily read-write operations, both for backups and network folders.
If someone wants to build their own NAS at home with TrueNAS, these drives are famous if you consider that they won't be doing the same read-write and data volume in the house on a daily basis.
I believe it is the noisiest hard drive on the market. At night, the clicking sound is heard every 2-3 seconds (even if the NAS is on and the PC is off), as if you had a fork scratching a wooden surface. If I had known, I would have paid an extra 200 to buy a 4tb SSD. It might be less audible when installed inside a PC, because the NAS casing amplifies the sound due to its shape and lighter construction... but still, there is no chance of it not being heard!
If you are going to place it in another room or house or country, I recommend it. If you want to have it next to you, bring earplugs. Otherwise... fully reliable.
