Southeastern Europe continues, as in the past, to be ultimately "that multinational region where the boundaries between cuisines are not the only ones that, although sharply distinguished like a blade, are nevertheless confused" (Günter Grass). Southeastern Europe is an area haunted by its past, by wars, pogroms, extreme and often irrational nationalisms, the mistrust of one country towards another. This edition aims to counteract these negative characteristics of our region, gathering some of the most important Balkan writers and recording, in this way, similarities and differences, particularly regarding our common memory and the common search for Balkan identity.

In this volume, the Greek language is represented by Nikos Themelis and Petros Markaris from Athens, and Panos Ioannidis and Niki Marangou from Nicosia.

The book opens with the "visualized" poems of Herta Müller, Nobel Prize winner in 2009.
