    Verified purchase from GoldenByte

extreme card especially for the money, it has good performance and good appearance but I give it only 4 because AMD's software is a bit worse than I expected (all the computers I have used had Nvidia) and because the lights on the fans only light up white and blue, I expected it to have full RGB control

PowerColor has manufactured the HellHound Radeon RX 7800 XT Spectral White, a graphics card that stands out with its completely white design - on the PCB, the cooler, and even the cables. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it has undergone factory modifications to provide an improved cooling system, ensuring optimal gaming experience without any drawbacks.

With an absolute Frosty look and dimensions of 322mm (length) x 134mm (width) x 50mm (height), the metal backplate stands out, reinforcing and protecting the internal components from the bending of the 14-layer white PCB for improved stability. The Wolf logo conceals a 15-phase VRM configuration underneath, allowing for overclocking capabilities, while equipped with 16GB GDDR6 memory and a 256-bit interface. The main GPU chip is strategically positioned to ensure direct heat transfer across the entire cooling block surface, enabling more efficient heat dissipation compared to other implementations. It features two operating modes: OC and Silent, with power targets set at 228W and 212W respectively, controlled by a BIOS switch conveniently located on the top side. The specifications for OC mode are 2213 MHz/Boost 2520 MHz, and for SILENT mode, they are 2124MHz/Boost 2430MHz. Importantly, the power connectivity is provided by the classic 2x8-pin connectors, which are sufficient in most cases without the need to change the PSU, as long as you have a minimum power requirement of 750W, according to specifications.

A strong point of the HellHound is its advanced triple-fan cooling system (100 x 90 x 100 mm), which utilizes a set of 6 white nickel-plated copper heat pipes to transfer heat more quickly and effectively. The middle fan (90mm) rotates in the opposite direction to reduce air turbulence, using an intelligent controller that detects temperature, activating the fans when the GPU reaches 60℃ and deactivating them when it falls below 50℃. This passive operation results in less noise and extended fan lifespan, as they do not need to constantly operate. The card does not support RGB, but you can choose between two color options: Ice White or Blue, or completely disable the lighting. Finally, for display connectivity, it offers 3x DisplayPort 2.1 outputs and 1x HDMI 2.1 output.

Admittedly, we are impressed. We observed proper performance quality suitable for mainstream and high-end gaming. For example, in The Witcher III Wild Hunt with DX11/Ultra mode/AA enable/16x AF enable/SSAO enable at 1440p, it delivered 170fps, reaching the peak of our presentation screen! We saw similar performance in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales/Call of Duty: Warzone/The Last of Us/Valorant/Fortnite/A Plague Tale-Requiem, which ran smoothly with corresponding graphics settings. Although it does not show significant improvement over a (6800 XT), FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) can significantly enhance performance in games that support it. The card is quiet, and its temperatures are also impressive, as we did not see it go above 60 degrees (in gaming) depending on the BIOS preferences (we had it set to OC as the default). When operating at maximum load, it consumes about 250-275 Watts on average, while the clock frequency can be adjusted to 2800 MHz and the memory to 19 Gbps with a gain of about 4-5%. If you apply a little undervolting, you can push the values a little further and gain an increase in performance of about 10%. In summary, the RX 7800 XT offers a decent gaming experience at 2K, and in all tests, we did not notice any coil-whine noise in the background. Almost all graphics cards exhibit this phenomenon to some degree, especially when operating at higher frame rates, but it was absent in this implementation.

    Final words and conclusion
The HellHound White version indicates a performance advantage of 3-4% compared to the other RX 7800 XT models and is positioned between the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070Ti, with the main goal of combining VFM performance and cost-effectiveness. Notable features include AV1 compatibility, integration of the RDNA3 architecture with last-gen display ports, and of course, the 16GB memory that enhances the overall user experience. In terms of performance, it mirrors the predecessors of the 6800XT/6900 XT while being slightly better than a GeForce RTX 4070, but with groundbreaking technological advancements like FSR3 that indeed provide an increase in FPS.

In conclusion, if Raytracing and NVIDIA's DLSS3 are not within your budget, the HellHound Radeon RX 7800 XT is the ultimate choice, prioritizing silent operation in an elegant white design, with a price range of 600-630 euros in the Greek market. We applaud PowerColor for the Spectral White as it has earned our respect in all aspects at this specific price point!

    Its main positive features are:
    • Competitive price
    • Faster than the NVIDIA RTX 4070
    • Overclocking capability
    • Extremely silent
    • Powerful cooling solution with low temperatures
    • FSR3 performance improvements
    • 16 GB VRAM
    • Special RGB switch
