Suar wood is the wood of the Albizia Saman tree, sometimes called the rain tree, a native tree in South America. This tree was introduced to Indonesia as a plantation tree. The wood is known by many different names, such as Monkeypod, Samenes Saman, Parota, South American Walnut, and Acadia, as well as Suar Wood. It is a beautifully shaped wood, with abundant interlocking "water" patterns. The "heart" of the wood is close in color to walnut, while the rest of the wood is lighter in color.
Each piece of Suar wood is unique. The formation of the wood's "water" patterns can vary significantly, making one piece more desirable to a particular customer than another.
