The writing of a new scientific work, which concerns surgery, is an effort that is difficult, responsible, and time-consuming. It reminds us that, despite the interest in new scientific developments, surgical skill is an essential element in the completion of Obstetrics-Gynecology.

Because, perhaps, most surgical procedures in gynecology are inherently the same, there is a tendency to consider surgery as given and not to differentiate between good and excellent surgery. The delicacy and precision of surgical maneuvers often do not receive the attention they deserve.

The majority of surgical techniques have been adequately documented and adherence to specific rules results in at least acceptable outcomes. The conditions under which surgical procedures are performed today (good anesthesia, adequate blood supply, antibiotics for infections) make surgical skill less necessary than in previous years.

However, there are still problems. The majority of Gynecologists today have satisfactory surgical skills, resulting in a decrease in the number of surgeries performed by specialists in various medical fields. Some major surgeries are rarer than in the past, so the experience of surgeons in such procedures is limited. Additionally, the training programs for new doctors cannot provide satisfactory surgical experience.

Gynecological surgeries performed by members of the Third Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic are a step towards the improvement of surgical technique. The result of our long-term experience is this book. The book is divided into three parts: introduction, gynecological surgeries, and obstetric surgeries. Each operation is described step by step, with corresponding photographs and diagrams. The book is accompanied by a DVD, which records all the surgeries performed by the doctors of our Clinic.

The aim of the book is to study surgical procedures by trainees, as well as by specialist Obstetricians-Gynecologists serving in smaller healthcare facilities with a possibly limited range of surgical field. Additionally, it is addressed to specialists who will find enough material to study and examine and, possibly, choose to modify some of their usual surgical practices.
