Description

Thanasis Vergis loses the ground beneath his feet when, in May 1972, his thirteen-year-old daughter Drosia drowns in the raging river of their village. Her body will not be found, only her shoes and jacket. Almost a year later, another girl from the neighboring village mysteriously disappears; rumors circulate that she eloped with someone she loved madly. A few months later, yet another girl from the first village vanishes without a trace on her birthday. One drowning and two disappearances in the same area raise many questions among both the residents and the Gendarmerie, who search everywhere but find no answers. The village is stigmatized as cursed, and a cloud of fear weighs heavily on its inhabitants.

Twenty whole years after Drosia's loss, a fifteen-year-old girl is found drowned in the same river. The curse strikes the village again. The coroner's examination is damning. Along with the case, three forgotten files are reopened by the Police. And then the demons awaken. Because this time, someone will speak and tell truths that no one wants to believe. What happened to those girls who disappeared? Where did they go? Where are they now?

Nice writing, easy-to-read book, and good paper quality. What I didn't particularly like, without it being a criterion for whether I ultimately liked the book or not, is that several times it turned the story back to present a character, while it could have done it from the beginning.. It had a lot of significance that took you back, I would prefer it to have fewer.

Very good book. The author describes the lives of people and situations in a very beautiful and vivid way. I liked it a lot and I also liked that she addressed some stereotypes and prejudices of society in her writing (I won't say more to avoid spoilers). Anyway, it is an excellent choice.
